That single number decides this purchase more reliably than any spec comparison. Under a couple of thousand square feet a year and electric is the better tool by a wide margin. Well above that, on a regular schedule, and the gas machine starts paying back the noise, the fuel, and the winter servicing it demands.

On a vertical surface gravity helps with the second job, which is why a modest electric machine cleans siding perfectly well. On flat concrete nothing helps, and the water has to do all of it. The fuel line is the one that surprises people. - You work where there is no mains power, on job sites, rural property, or well away from the house.
- You need to draw water from a tank, a pond, or a water butt rather than a pressurised spigot.
- You already maintain small engines competently and the annual fuel routine is not a burden you will forget.

The Hybrid Approach That Often Wins

Once you have picked a format, the same handful of details separate a machine you keep from one you replace.
- On electric, find out whether the motor is induction or universal. It is the specification that decides lifespan, and many listings simply do not state it.
- Compare cleaning units, not PSI. Multiply the pressure by the flow for every machine on your shortlist before comparing anything else.
- Look for PWMA or CETA certification, which means the numbers were measured against a published standard rather than at the pump with no nozzle fitted.
- Check the wheels. Small hard casters dig into grass and gravel, which is exactly where you use the machine.
- Check hose and cord length. Every extra foot is one less trip back to reposition the machine mid-job.
