If your driveway is not a simple rectangle, break it into rectangles, calculate each separately and add the results. A driveway with a turning apron in front of the garage is usually two rectangles; one with a curved entry is close enough if you measure the widest points and accept a small overestimate.

Sealcoat is meant to go on thin, and the temptation to stretch a pail further than these figures allow is exactly the wrong instinct. Spreading a gallon over 130 square feet does not save money — it produces a film too thin to survive a winter, which means resealing sooner. The coverage range is a specification, not a suggestion.
3. How to Measure Your Driveway Properly
Five minutes with a tape measure beats an estimate from the kitchen window by a wide margin, and the errors people make are consistent enough to be worth listing.
Measure the length in the direction cars travel
From the garage door or the top of the driveway to where the asphalt meets the street or sidewalk. Use a long tape or a measuring wheel.
Measure the width at the narrowest and widest points
Most driveways flare at the street end or beside the garage. Average the two if the difference is small; treat them as separate rectangles if it is large.
Add the apron or turning area separately

These bands already include a modest waste allowance. If your driveway sits between two rows, take the larger. If the surface is heavily weathered and grey with visible aggregate, take the porous column regardless of size.
Do Not Forget the Other Materials
Sealer is rarely the only thing you need to buy.
Budget for crack filler for anything wider than an eighth of an inch, foam backer rod for deep cracks, a degreaser and oil spot primer for contaminated areas, and an applicator if you do not already own one. The sealer is the largest line item but it is not the only one, and arriving at the weekend without crack filler stops the job before it starts.
